Six Frigid 'The Dark Knight Rises' Character PostersSix Frigid 'The Dark Knight Rises' Character Posters

That sound you hear is Warner Bros. opening the promotional floodgates for The Dark Knight Rises, which is the summer's biggest impending superhero movie, now that The Avengers has broken so many records and cleared the way for Christopher Nolan's climactic Batman movie.  Today, there are no fewer than six character posters for the sequel, two each for the Caped Crusader, the villainous Bane, and the adaptable Catwoman.

The character posters follow yesterday's debut of a third one-sheet for the The Dark Knight Rises.  That poster, which you can see here, has Batman brooding while Gotham burns and nails the fiery message home with the tagline "A Fire Will Rise."

These newer posters, by contrast, are altogether more chilly, as they feature the characters standing in snow and rain with the simpler taglines, "The Legend Ends" and "Rise."

The first three posters premiered at Yahoo! Movies, while the second half, all international posters, first showed up on facebook.

The characters who wear the wear big costumes get their character posters, and good on Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Hardy for wearing their outfits well.  The less-outrageously costumed Gary Oldman, Michael Caine, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard, Morgan Freeman, Juno Temple, Josh Pence, and Matthew Modine, however, are being left out of the poster party.

Christopher Nolan directs from a screenplay by himself and his brother Jonathan Nolan, with a story by the director and his Batman Begins co-writer David Goyer.

The Dark Knight Rises ends this particular cinematic Bat-saga on regular and IMAX screens this July 20th.
