Michael Grimm

Thirty-year-old Michael Grimm's rich soul filled voice and captivating acoustic guitar captured television audiences as they watched glued to America's Got Talent episode on Tuesday, June 1st, 2010.

Grimm, a Bay St. Louis and Waveland, Mississippi native, experienced heartache at an early age.  After his parents' divorce, he and his 5-year-old sister were taken in and watched over by his grandparents, who were church goers and also country music fans.  Looking for comfort after his parents' break-up, Michael turned to music and developed a blended musical style that he would describe as "positive country Christian."  Michael's grandmother encouraged his musical talent and believed that he would be noticed if he performed in the local Southern Mississippi bars.  So, she started chaperoning him to bars when he was an adolescent.

kris-allen Kris never took a lesson, so his guitar-playing was entirely self-taught. By the time he enrolled in college, he knew he wanted to play music professionally. “When I was a freshman I realized I needed to start writing songs.” During his sophomore year, he played his first gig at a local bar. “It was in downtown Conway and the place was filled because it was the bar’s opening night. It was also their closing night. I don’t think it was our fault, because everyone said we played well. That night is when I got the encouragement to keep going.”

Kris played gigs in nearby Little Rock and Fayetteville and recorded a CD when he left college in the middle of his junior year. He continued to play gigs at night while working as a salesperson at Hibbert Sporting Goods during the day.

David Broza David Broza only met the late Townes Van Zandt once. But he apparently made quite an impression on the Texas music icon.

When he died in 1997, Van Zandt -- who had performed with Broza at a marathon Writers in the Round concert during 1994 in Houston -- left the Israeli singer-songwriter a shoe box of unreleased poems and lyrics that Broza has now turned into "Night Dawn: The Unpublished Poetry of Townes Van Zandt," a 12-track album that came out on Feb. 23 on S-Curve.

Calvin Harris Photo: Samir Hussein/ Getty Images 'It's like I'm living in a different dimension at the moment,' he tells MTV News of getting praise from dance-music kings David Guetta, Tiësto.
By Adam Murphy

You probably couldn't pick Calvin Harris out of a lineup of skinny, white Scottish guys. But as other DJ/producers like Tiësto and David Guetta break into the mainstream Stateside, Harris stands on the brink of becoming a household name.

Just like his predecessors, Harris has been setting the remix game on fire for several years now, creating club-friendly versions of songs by the Ting Tings, Cut Copy, Passion Pit, Katy Perry and Shakira, to name a few. And while his first full-length studio LP as a solo artist, I Created Disco, dominated the charts in the U.K. with the songs "Girls," "Vegas" and "Acceptable in the 80s," his presence in America is still mostly limited to the clubs.

'This one is it: Raymond V. Raymond!' singer saysWith more than 45 million albums sold, Usher has already established himself as one of the greats of contemporary music. But does the singer see himself as a legend?

"I'm Usher, the one and only," he laughed last week during a sitdown with MTV News in New York. "For me, I think [Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye] — they figured out what they were as they were going, by inspiration as well. Philanthropy is one thing all of them did in some way — rather, it was allowing their music to speak to where they were and what they had to say, from Michael to Stevie Wonder to Marvin. The one thing they all had is the ability to last forever. Two of them are now gone, Michael and Marvin, their music will last forever, and that's something I hope to accomplish."

Kevin Costner and Modern WestKevin Costner, the actor... But did you know he has a band?

Imagine contemporary America set against a Western backdrop. A man weilding an acoustic guitar takes center stage and sings about freight trains, dusty avenues and broken dreams in a voice that's pleasant and soft, and than raspy and strong - the same heroic man we've seen time and again in such movies as "Dances With Wolves," "The Bodyguard" and "Field of Dreams". He commands the stage with the same understated sex appeal he has on the big screen.

So, why now, at the age of 53, is Costner heading out on the road with a guitar and a full band in tow to sing and play for crowds of people? The answer is pretty simple, it turns out that Mr. Costner has been writing, singing and playing music off and on with two members of his band, guitarist John Coinman and bassist Blair Forward, for over 20-years. Back then they were known as Roving Boy. Music is in his soul.

Kevin Costner is happiest when making music and salutes his wife's encourgement. "My wife said, "Look, you are the happiest by far when you are making music. Why don't you keep on making music?"

Andrew WhiteAndrew White’s unique sound, although could be difficult to describe, has a pleasing, highly melodic structure. He draws you into his music with meaningful and sometimes personal lyrics as well as technically brilliant finger-style guitar.

Originally from Newcastle-upon-Tyne in North East England, White's move to New Zealand at the age of 16, gave him the opportunity to establish himself as one of New Zealand's top guitarists and singer-songwriters. You could find him busking on the streets of Auckand, New Zealand until he released his first album, Conversations in 1984, and was immediately signed by the new-age US label Narada Records. Since then, he has recorded at least nine albums, including Islands, an instrumental collaboration with Grammy-nominated artist David Arkenstone, which reached the top 30 on the US Billboard Charts.

Yanni Voices - Click to Enlarge Image Yanni, (born Γιάννης Χρυσομάλλης (Giannis Chrysomallis) on November 14th 1954 in Kalamata, Greece is a self-taught pianist, keyboardist, and composer who is exceptionally gifted in combining different musical styles into beautiful, emotional and passionate works of art.

His ability to take musicians from different countries with different training, religious backgrounds and outlooks on life and meld their playing styles into living pieces of music is beyond comprehension and I can only describe as "raw talent".  Yanni had no formal musical training and to this day is not able to read a note
